Surviving Well: Wellness Series After a Cancer Diagnosis

Join Ascension St. Vincent’s and Forge to learn how nutrition and exercise can maximize quality of life for cancer survivors and their loved ones. Each session includes wellness education, hands-on cooking demonstrations, and stretching / stability classes inspired by Pilates exercises.

Surviving Well will meet in-person weekly on Wednesdays from 10am-12pm at Lakeshore Foundation from January 25th through February 22nd (a 5-week series). Participants are encouraged to attend all 5 sessions. Those who complete all 5 sessions will take home wellness goodies to implement what they learn at home. No previous experience with cooking or Pilates is required to participate. These are the session dates for the series:

  • Wednesday, January 25th
  • Wednesday, February 1st
  • Wednesday, February 8th
  • Wednesday, February 15th
  • Wednesday, February 22nd

This series is open to anyone who is or has been treated for cancer at Ascension St. Vincent’s, participated in an Ascension St. Vincent’s cancer support group, attended Camp Bluebird, or is part of Forge’s breast cancer community. Class size is limited to 20 participants so register today if you’d like to attend.

About our Experts:

Laura Rutledge, MA, RDN, CSO, is a Registered Dietician Nutritionist who specializes in oncology nutrition during and after cancer diagnosis and treatment at St. Vincent’s Bruno Cancer Center in Birmingham, AL. LeeAnn Davis is a certified Pilates instructor and Breast Cancer Exercise Specialist. She is also a breast cancer survivor and during treatment she struggled with finding exercises that worked for her body and the changes that had occurred, like range of motion loss and decreased strength in her upper body. When she discovered Pilates, she knew she had found her passion! LeeAnn believes that everyone can benefit from Pilates and loves helping individuals restore functional mobility and a sense of well being after a cancer diagnosis.
