When you or a loved one is diagnosed with breast cancer, the process can be overwhelming. You're given a lot of information. It's hard to keep up. It's hard to focus. Think of a Forge Advocate as your best friend through this process. Forge Advocates provide information, support, encouragement, and assistance to help survivors and co-survivors steer through the complicated medical process and overcome barriers. They can take notes, attend meetings, manage resources and act as a guide through the survivor's treatment, care and survivorship. Survivors and co-survivors will be assessed and offered a plan to address their individual needs, and Advocates will re-evaluate the survivor and co-survivor's situations regularly to provide resources throughout the treatment process.
We've been there before. That's why we know how important it is to have someone to talk to as you Forge on in life. This program matches you with trained and compassionate mentors who can provide emotional, mental and social support.
Survivors and co-survivors have access to an active listener who will help survivors, co-survivors and their families talk about their needs and set goals. Our trained Telephone Support Team Members are available to listen and provide support through a resource referral, Forge Advocate, or Forge Peer Mentor. Calls are answered Monday through Saturday from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm. Messages will be returned within 12 hours.
Survivors and their co-survivors meet monthly to share, learn and empower one another.
Through a referral from Forge, breast cancer survivors and co-survivors can receive six free counseling sessions at Oasis Counseling for Women and Children.
Forge Events are designed to meet the needs of breast cancer survivors and co-survivors in the Greater Birmingham area. Events are approximately 3 hours long. Check out our Events page for more information.
Forge will be a place where all those touched by breast cancer can bond with others to Forge a new future. Forge's core will focus on five major quality of life domains as seen in the graphic below.
