Tell us about yourself!
Hi, my name is Jill Garrett. I’m originally from Florence, AL. I have lived in Florida, Georgia, and Virginia. My background is in Art. I’ve been a Birmingham native since 2010. I have a wonderful husband, three children (ages: 15,8,2), and the best rescue dog! I do TNR (for cats) work in the area. I’m an avid animal lover and advocate. I am a member of All Saints Episcopal Church. I love painting, reading, cooking, being outdoors, and spending time with my friends and family. I love all things vintage and antique.
What sparked your interest in yoga and mindfulness?
I have been practicing yoga for around 20 years. I was drawn to the breathwork of yoga and curious about the mind/body connection.
How do you think a mindfulness practice can help cancer survivors and their loved ones to thrive after a recent or past diagnosis?
A mindfulness yoga practice is a great healing tool. I personally have had several traumas in my life. I can tell you right now that yoga helped heal me and breathwork saved my life! When you have a regular yoga practice it will train your brain to become mindful and to slow down. Mindfulness can be defined as, “Paying attention on purpose.” We could all benefit from slowing down and being in the here and now.
What can individuals expect from your videos and “live” sessions on social media?
This beautiful community can expect a safe and loving space while in my presence. Yoga is for everyone. You don’t have to be “flexible” to do yoga. Anyone can do my class. I will offer up creative ways to use props so you can feel confident while exploring and developing your own yoga practice.
