A time of virtual gatherings to share, discuss, and celebrate journeys with breast cancer.
Forge Breast Cancer Survivor Center hosts a virtual “Coffee Conversation” on select mornings at 10:00 am central time that features a 30-minute interview with a survivor, co-survivor, or medical professional on a topic, followed by a time for conversation with participants.
October 10th’s Coffee Conversation features Katia Khoury, MD. Dr. Khoury is Assistant Professor of Medicine and a clinician-educator in the Division of Hematology and Oncology who works in outpatient breast clinics as well as inpatient services at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Dr. Khoury earned her M.D. from the American University of Beirut (AUB, followed by two years of post-doctoral research in the Division of Hematology and Oncology at AUB. She completed her Internal Medicine residency at Case Western Reserve University/University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center; and she subsequently trained as a Hematology and Oncology fellow at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. She joined the faculty at UAB in 2020.
She has a clinical and research interest in breast oncology, with a focus on breast cancer management, hereditary breast cancer syndromes, health disparities, and practice areas with limited resources. She has participated in clinical research during her medical career and is the site principal investigator and co-investigator for multiple active clinical trials and research projects. She has presented her work at annual meetings of ASCO (American Society of Clinical Oncology) and SABCS (San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium) focusing on disparities and practice areas with limited resources.
