Food is an important tool to improve quality of life during cancer treatment and recover. That’s why Forge offers one-on-one nutrition guidance with Oncology Dietician Donna Vaughn.
Proper nutrition can be an essential tool in treatment and recovery, with many patients developing increased needs for nutrients like protein and calories to promote healing after surgery or treatment. Others may struggle with weight gain or loss during or after treatments. Maintaining a healthy weight is an important aspect of decreasing risk for cancer recurrence so working with an oncology dietician can improve health long-term.
We also recognize that especially in the South, eating is a part of culture and our social lives. Anytime a breast cancer patient or survivor has difficulty with eating, it can affect their connections with family and friends – a vital component to quality of life. An oncology dietitian has a good understanding of all the aspects of nutrition and can help with any difficulties a patient may be having. Conversations often begin with talking about eating habits, preferences and concerns related to nutrition. Donna helps our client make a plan for how they can use food and supplements to reach their goals. She checks in periodically to see how things are going and may make adjustments to what you or how a client is eating (such as time of day they eat).
Proper nutrition can be overwhelming during a cancer diagnosis. The goal of our nutrition guidance program is to make eating a healthy diet easier in any way possible.
