As a Peer Advocate, you serve as a trained and compassionate friend who has “been there.” You provide social and emotional support to breast cancer patients, survivors, or their loved ones (co-survivors), serving as a guide through diagnosis, treatment, and beyond. This role is primarily performed via phone, email, text, or in-person meetings. Peer advocates can also go the extra step to attend medical appointments and provide support through an often complicated medical process. You can be an extra set of ears, take notes, and be a hand to hold through medical treatment. This role is primarily performed via phone, email, text or in-person meetings at the Forge home, in hospitals and clinics, and within the community.
If you are interested in serving as a Peer Advocate, please contact our Volunteer and Support Coordinator, Jinida Holt, at (205) 990-5368 or [email protected].
